Sailing is a typical outdoor sport. For the special sports environment at sea, there are many places to pay attention to before going to sea. In order to better experience the fun of sailing, some preparations are essential.

1. Do a whole ship inspection before, during and after going to sea

Before you go out to sea and after you return, find those small leaks that may be in the propeller shaft seal or on the main valve, this will prevent future disasters.

But remember to do this check at least once a few hours after you set off, one round above the boat and one round below deck. Look for loops of wire that may come off, such as dowel pins; knots that can come off, such as stop knots used to attach to the end of the jib or rigging.

All of these are like a tiny snake in the vast ocean, but once it bites your hind leg, the result is unimaginable. So, a short three-minute check can pay you back longer.

2. Bring cold protection equipment

Instruct your crew to carry a full set of cold protection gear when on deck, even on a sunny day. This includes a coat, overalls and sailing boots.

Nautical weather can change quickly and broadcast weather forecasts are important, but local TV forecasts can be very different from what was forecast a few hours ago, or from a few kilometers away from you.

3. Bring a personal flotation device

Tell your crew to bring their own personal flotation device. The size of the personal flotation device should fit the wearer.

It's best to take the time in advance to find a personal flotation device that is comfortable for your body type, because you don't know how long you'll need to wear it. A comfortable personal flotation device will keep you safe and comfortable in all weather conditions.

4. Retract before nightfall

Retracting the mainsail before sunset is for safety reasons. When the wind is relatively light, raise the larger headsail, but not so much that it cannot be operated by one person. For safety, a little sailing speed can be sacrificed, and everyone can also get a good night's rest.
