The earliest predecessor of bagel was an ancient round bread. Later, in 1683, a baker in Vienna, Austria, made the first bagel circle cake with yeast fermented dough to pay tribute to the Polish emperor's rescue of Austria.

Why is it made into this shape? The Polish emperor's riding skills are very good, Austrian bakers make bagels like stirrups, and the stirrup in Austrian is “beugel”, which means “perfection”. Later, bagels became popular in Eastern Europe. The Jews in Eastern Europe called them “buger”. In the next three centuries, although the names of bagels were different in different places, the raw materials and practices remained unchanged.

In 1880, many Jews from Eastern Europe came to the United States and brought their favorite bagels. Bagels also closely linked New York and Chicago, which had the largest number of Jewish immigrants at that time. Jews have always been famous for their conservatism. In order to maintain the tradition and formula of bagels, they set up a bagel master association based in New York, and strictly controlled the production and sale, similar to the monopoly system. Only guild masters can make and sell, and this power is inherited and only passed on to sons. This also makes bagels mysterious!

At the beginning of 1960, the baking industry gradually matured, machines could replace a large number of workers, and the guild monopoly was also broken, so the Jewish bagels originated in New York began to spread all over the United States. Since then, in the 1980s, the concept of healthy diet has become the mainstream in the future, so the low-fat, low cholesterol and low fermentation of bagels have been favored by nutritionists, and they can be seen everywhere in the streets of New York. Today, bagel is no longer just a common breakfast for Jews, but a popular breakfast without racial distinction. It has also become one of the favorite pastas for many people across the United States. In 1920, a new product "cream cheese" appeared on the market. Since then, cream cheese has become the best match with bagel.

The biggest feature of bagels is that the formed dough is slightly boiled with boiling water before baking. After this process, the bagels have a special toughness and flavor. Bagels can be eaten in a variety of ways, such as steaming, baking and microwave heating. Cut it horizontally into two circles, spread it with your favorite jam or cream, sauce, and then match it with other fresh fruits and vegetables. Of course, it can also be mixed with smoked ham slices or chicken, which is more exotic.
